Dr Dilruk Wijay
Dr Wijay graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Otago, New Zealand in 1985. He was privileged to be offered a position as an assistant lecturer by the same University dental School. After two years as assistant lecturer, Dr Wijay decided that he preferred clinical practice over pursuing a full time academic career and joined a general dental practice in his then home town, Invercargill, New Zealand.
In 1988 Dr Wijay was offered a position as the Lead Dentist at a private practice in Rosebery Tasmania. As a young dentist eager to gain extensive clinical experience, Dr Wijay decided to accept the challenge and made the move to Tasmania. At the time, being the only dentist available and serving the entire west coast of Tasmania with no specialist back up, Dr Wijay gained invaluable clinical experience during his time in Rosebery.
In 1991, as a young dentist eager to settle down and start a family Dr Wijay decided to make a move from the isolated town of Rosebery and established his very own practice in Hobart – Channel Dental Care. Dr Wijay commenced clinical practice in Kingston, Huonville, and worked as a visiting clinician at Tasmanian Government dental services including Supervising School Dental Therapist across Southern Tasmania.
Dr Wijay established Channel Dental Care as a sole dental practitioner with a single dental chair. Within a very short period the practice flourished due to Dr Wijay’s high values and philosophy of delivering the best dental care to patients Kingsborough and Huon areas. Dr Wijay was the first dentist in the Kingsborough and Huon area to affiliate with health funds such as Medibank Private and BUPA making high quality dental treatment more affordable for young establishing families in the region.
Dr Wijay has a particular interest in cosmetic dentistry with a focus on crown and bridge work, periodontology and general oral surgery. He is proud to say that he is the longest serving dentist in the Kingborough and Huon area and has no plans of slowing down just yet.
Dr Wijay is married with two children Joshua and Cathy who are the “apples of his eyes”.
Dr Edwin Lu
Joining the team at Channel Dental Care in 2016, Dr Edwin Lu is an experienced dentist with a passion for endodontics. After graduating from the University of Adelaide in 2007, Dr Lu briefly worked for Queensland Health before spending five years practicing for Primary Health Care in Brisbane.
Edwin is passionate about all aspects of general dentistry and endodontic treatments. He enjoys helping his patients by identifying and treating oral health problems early. Whilst he is an experienced dentist, he also recognises that he needs to continue learning. Dr Lu actively looks for opportunities to further his knowledge and skills in the dental industry at conferences and symposiums.
Away from Channel Dental Care, Kingston, Edwin loves travelling and watching movies. He is also a little bit of a foodie who enjoys trying new and different foods.
Dr Wilma Johnson
Dr Wilma Johnson has been a part of the Channel Dental Care team since 1999. Dr Johnson is an experienced dentist that loves building lasting relationships with her patients to help them achieve their ideal smile.
Wilma graduated from the University of Otago in 1982 with a Bachelor of Dental Science. After graduating Wilma spent the early years of her career in general practices. She has also previously worked as an Aboriginal Health Flying Dentist providing dental care to remote indigenous areas across the state. Wilma has experience working in a Special Care clinic and in mobile dentistry.
Even as an experienced dentist Dr Johnson knows the value of learning. She is constantly seeking opportunities to further her skills and knowledge in the industry at conferences and course.
Away from the practice Wilma enjoys sailing in the beautiful Tasmanian waterways, and relaxing listening to music.
Dr Ricardo Montivero
Originally from Argentina, Dr Ricardo Montivero is a passionate dentist that joined the Channel Dental Care team in early 2006.
In 1997, Dr Montivero completed a Bachelor of Dental Science in Cordoba, Argentina. He then spent eight years practicing in private practices in his home country before moving to Australia and joining Channel Dental Care.
He enjoys all aspects of general dental care but has a passion for fixed implant restorations. He is constantly seeking opportunities to learn both from his peers and at conferences.
When he is not at Channel Dental Care Ricardo spends his free time with his family. He loves taking them outdoors and exploring Tasmania, as well as playing sports.
Dr Lilian Sakalo
Dr Lilian Sakalo joined the team at Channel Dental Care in 2015 where she is thoroughly enjoying being part of the Kingston community.
After completing a Bachelor of Dental Science at the University of Western Australia, Dr Sakalo spent 14 years with the Royal Australian Airforce as a dental officer and then practiced in a private practice in Western Australia. After taking a well-deserved break from dentistry, Dr Sakalo re-entered the industry and joined Channel Dental Care, Kingston.
Lilian has a passion for endodontics and restorative dentistry. She loves educating her patients about the prevention of dental disease and helping to ensure they have a decay free future. Although Dr Sakalo has a lot of experience in the dental industry, she also knows the importance of constantly learning. She regularly attends a variety of ADA and study club conferences and seminars to ensure she keeps her knowledge and skills up-to-date.
Away from Channel Dental Care Dr Sakalo enjoys spending time in her garden, cooking, and boating. She also loves enjoying Tasmania and all it’s wonderful scenery.
Dr Ester Cheang
With a bright and bubbly personality great with patients young and old, passionate about all aspect of dentistry, loves exploring the beautiful places Tasmania has to offer.
